Seven years ago this month I achieved the unthinkable in the world of CRPS (an incurable neurological pain syndrome) – I was pain free. For the prior 60 months using discipline, persistence, and a huge helping of courage, I constructed a personalized recovery plan.
After my diagnosis in 1986, I suffered through a failed surgery, ineffective treatment strategies, and innumerable medication side effects.
In 2010, I stumbled upon the fairly new concept of neuroplasticity – the ability of the brain to be retrained.
That knowledge launched me on a self-help program that ultimately brought me to the point where I tapered off all my pain related medications. I was also able to strengthen my body so I no longer require a cane for balance.
My self-help strategies were the forefathers of somatic tracking & graded motor imagery. Currently these 2 potent strategies are being used by physical therapists and psychologists to treat neuropathic pain.
I have chosen to celebrate my recovery by writing a pain management resource book that guarantees the reader will experience an overall improvement in their life in a very short time. All it takes is discipline, persistence, and courage.
